Vintage round wooden polarized kaleidoscope. Vintage signed Kaleidoscope made and signed by T S Paretti in 1982. Kaleidoscopes by Tom and Carol Paretti were considered to the avant-garde in the late 1970s. Their kaleidoscopes continue to be innovative at the beginning of the 21st century. After taking a kaleidoscope prize apart to discover the secret behind the magic, Tom made a kaleidoscope for his design class project.

I believe this is a three mirror prism which repeats itself infinitely when viewed. It uses special birefringent materials to fill the object chambers that are capped with polarizing filters. Essentially the filters stop certain light frequencies or waves from entering the chamber. The birefringent material breaks the light into the visible frequencies of color - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Beautiful aesthetically inside and out.

A great addition to your vintage home decor. This would make a great unique gift for a birthday or house warming gift.

Vintage Kaleidoscope measures 8.75" long by 2.5" diameter and weighs 1lb.

CONDITION

In good working condition with signs of use commensurate with age - the visuals though the kaleidoscope are delightful and clear (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
